Athlete Donations

Your support of young Canadian athletes helps them offset the costs of travelling to International events such as the World Junior Championships and U23 World Championships. The costs are not small to attend these events and the costs are largely shouldered by the athletes and their families because funding to the national organization (Cross Country Canada for example) is not high enough.

Full disclosure:
We are charged by the credit card companies for processing the credit cards and that cost we do have to recover (we are not a rich business). We will send you an electronic receipt via e-mail after your donation, however we are not a registered charity so it is not usable for tax purposes. Donations by credit card to Andy Shields will go directly to him by a cheque for the total amount donated.

If you know of other athletes that you think would benefit by being added to this page please let us know.

Andy Shields Donations

Andy has been select to the Canadian Junior Team to attend the World Junior Championships in Hinterzarten, Germany January 21-31, 2010. Prior to the Championships the team will be attending a local race in Hinterzarten to get familiar with the course and then have a training camp in northern Italy.

Andy is very excited to have been selected to be part of the Canadian Team and it is an opportunity that just cannot be turned down. Andy is a member of the Waterloo Nordic Ski Team and is coached by Kevin Shields. Andy has been showing steady progress and success overt the past several seasons. Currently Andy is supported with equipment sponsorships from Ski*go Canada for ski poles and ski gloves. Please help Andy's success making the Canadian Junior Team continue with your donation to help with the trip to the World Junior Championship! This is a big step towards Andy's dream of qualifying for a fture Winter Olympics.

You can watch a YouTube video of Andy at the World Junior Selection races in Valcartier, QC Jan 1-5, 2010. Andy is wearing an Ontario Ski Team racing suit in the video. He's in the 4th quarterfinal to start (second from the left). During the start of the quarterfinal the skier beside Andy hits Andy's ski pole with his ski breaking Andy's pole. Luckly Kevin is close to hand a spare pole to Andy. During the semi-final Andy gets knocked, literally, for a loop -- great recovery!
There is also a nice article in The Record about Andy you can read.

We will provide a list of names to Andy so he knows who has donated (unless you ask us not to in the Comments box on the checkout page). If you have any comments you would like passed along with your donation you may write them in the Comment box on the Checkout Cart page (Checkout Cart in the red navigation bar at the top of the page).
