Waxing Example for Ski*go C22

When the season is early or late very warm weather can happen. In fact it can happen in the middle of the winter too if you experience a chinook. When this happens the clear choice for top speed is Ski*go C22. This is a quick layer by layer example for preparing your skis or snowboard. Additional rationale comments are adding in italics.

  1. Brush skis with fine brass brush. A roto-brush is preferred. This helps clean the bases of large particles
  2. Apply Ski*go Soft High Penetration. Scrape while warm but no longer molten. This reaches deep to remove old wax so it will not mix with the new waxes and will help improve layer durability.
  3. Apply Ski*go Graphite LF. Be sure to iron long enough. You should see an "orange peel" texture when done. Allow to cool. Scrape lightly. Brush well. The graphite layer adds anti-static properties to the base which means less dirt will be picked up. Warm snow will have dirt on the surface.
  4. Apply Ski*go Yellow/C242 HF (nordic) or Ski*go Yellow/C242 HF-AL (alpine/snowboard). Allow to cool. Scrape lightly then brush. Repeat to add a second layer of Yellow/C242. The second layer will make a significant improvement for top racers. Yellow/C242 HF-AL is slightly harder for the man-made snow conditions experienced on the alpine runs.
  5. Sprinkle Ski*go C22 evenly over the base.
  6. For Nordic races over 5km iron C22 with a temperature of 190°C. You should wear a P100 respirator in a well ventilated area. The high ironing temperature is a necessity for C22 to bond to the underlayer best for longevity.
  7. For all others you may cork. We recommend you use a synthetic hand cork or a roto-cork. Do not use a felt cover cork as C22 will stick to the felt. Work small sections of the base at a time. Each base area should be corked until hot.
  8. Let the skis cool as long as possible. A minimum of 15 minutes. The longer you can leave the skis "resting" before brushing the better. If you can leave the skis overnight in a warm room even better. There is no problem preparing the skis several days ahead when you are confident of the upcoming conditions. Do not scrape the skis.
  9. Brush the skis in short strokes. This will leave a dust of C22 over the base. You can cork this C22 dust back into the ski. Let cool. Then brush again. Before the final brush you may atomize/spray water over the base. This will keep the dust down and helps align the fluoro's. You want to atomize or fine spray water because water simply sprinkled over the ski base collects into large drops because of the very high hydrophobic nature of C22.

Notes: Always set the iron for the temperature indicated for the wax as this will provide the best wax job. For races over 25km a full second layer of Ski*go C22 is recommended to be ironed in.
