Wooden Skis Specialty Page
Welcome to our newest web page!
Wooden are still used by many people for recreational and backcountry
skiing. The care of and the waxing of wooden skis differs from the
modern polyethelene (aka P-tex) based skis. So we've established
this special Wooden Skis Specialty Page to help make it easier
for you to find the products that work best with wooden skis. This is
a composition of sections from other wax pages here at SkiWax.ca.
This page is aimed at recreational and backcountry skiers. Other grip/kick
waxes on-site will work too. You may also be interested in the
Tech Pages for preparing the wooden skis
before tarring the bases as well as for storage and repair.

Vauhti Pine Tar for Wooden Ski (250ml each)
100% pine tar with no additives from Finnish pine trees.
This is for tarring the bases of wooden skis to prevent the wood from
absorbing water and help retain camber. Each tin is wide-mouthed to
easily allow a wide brush to be dipped. A wide brush means easier, faster
application. Comes with instructions on the label for two different methods
of application (hot and cold).
The amount of tar required per ski will vary depending on the type
of wood, size of ski, frequency of skiing and how long since the last tarring.
With well maintained wooden skis the tin should cover 7 to 10 pairs.
(See the Tech Pages for more information on
tarring wooden skis.) This can is much larger
than the cans sold by many other brands. We have limited quanties left and once these are exhausted no more can be reordered of this excellent pine tar.

Your wax decision is easy: Blue below freezing (0°C) or Yellow above.

Ski*go Kick Waxes, 45g each
Ski*go kick waxes have been developed over years of race testing and
experience. This high level demand means all skiers benefit from the
testing, technology and experience. Ski*go has a tight line of kick waxes
that meet all conditions. The Racing Universal is one of the most amazing
waxes. Recreational skiers may be interested in the Recreational Packages
shown below. We recommend as a start, in order, the waxes XC Blue, XC Violet,
XC Red, XC Green, XC Orange then finally XC Yellow for fitness skiers.
Remember to apply in thin layers and cork well between each layer for 4 to 6
layers (this is typical for kick wax).
!NEW labels starting 08/09.
Race and Recreational Kick Waxes
Basewax, +3°..-20°C
This improves the durability of your later wax jobs.
New formulation starting in the 08/09 season that has team wax techs
giving loads of positive reports.
Important in conditions that are icy and/or abrasive because it helps the kick
wax stay on your ski instead of coming off or smearing into the glide zone.
Apply a thin layer and cork it smooth. It is suggested that you heat
the basewax into the base then allow it to cool before layering the
wax-of-the-day on.
Basewax

XC Yellow, +5°..-1°C
For cold snow transforming into warm and wet snow.
When the snow is softer and/or it is raining recreational skiers should move to
Ski*go Universal Klister while racers can try Ski*go LF Orange before
a klister. Previously named "Silver Special".
XC Yellow
$7.00 each
|
XC Orange, +3°..-2°C
For Variable snow conditions including damp snow.
Move to Silver when getting warmer and the snow is still firm.
Move to LF Orange if conditions are wetter. Move to XC Red if the
snow is clumping or icing. Previously named "Yellow Special" -- so famous
that this information is still listed on the label.
XC Orange
$7.00 each
|
XC Red, 0°..-2°C
For all snow conditions. Move to Ski*go XC Orange (aka Yellow Special)
as snow gets more damp or as the snow loses structure. Previously named
"Red Special".
XC Red
$7.00 each
|
XC Violet, -1°..-8°C
For all snow conditions with good firmness. Move to XC Red as the snow
becomes softer. If the snow is clumping or icing on the ski move to Ski*go
XC Blue. Racers: you can layer XC Violet and XC Blue when you need
to just slightly reduce snow clumping and need to maintain the grip.
Previously named "Purple Special".
XC Violet
$7.00 each
|
XC Blue, -3°..-10°C
For fine grained snow. This temperature range matches the conditions when most
people are skiing (recreational, fitness and racing). If the snow is icing
or clumping move to Ski*go XC Green. If the grip is not enough move to
Ski*go XC Violet. Previously named "Blue Extra".
XC Blue
$7.00 each
|
XC Green, -7°..-20°C
For fine grained and older snow. As the snow gets firmer it will penetrate
the wax more. This firm wax will prevent clumping and icing. Remember to
keep each wax layer thin particularly as the temperature is lower.
XC Green
$7.00 each

Ski*go Klister Waxes, 60g each
Ski*go klister waxes have been developed with the classical ski racer in
mind. This means recreational and fitness skiers benefit from the race
experience in these waxes. These klisters have been developed with
a special Ski*go anti-freeze lubricant that significantly reduces the
chances of icing the kick zone.
SkiWax.ca packs each klister with a labeled ziploc freezer bag
to store the klister in. This helps prevent leaky messes and unintentional
mixing of waxes.
When testing klister for a long ski, loppet or race be sure to: 1) let
the klister cool completely before testing, and 2) test the klister in the
shaded portions of the ski trail too. Also for long races be sure to
iron a "binder layer" into the kick zone for durability -- especially
with icy conditions.
Universal, +3°..-2°C
A tar-based klister that is ideal for the recreational skier. Works
well in a mixture of conditions. Use when regular kick waxes are not
providing enough grip. Good when the snow is still well-structured but damp.
Also good when new snow covers icy crystals underneath. Easy and smooth
application.
Univeral
$11.00 each
|
Orange, +10°..+4°C
For very warm conditions when the snow is very wet. Use when very warm
and the snow is still with good structure (i.e. new fallen or falling
snow). Easy to apply into a thin layer.
Orange
$11.00 each
|
Silver, +5°..0°C
For snow that is wet or damp, and is starting to lose it's structure
and/or becoming dirty.
Silver
$11.00 each
|
Red, +5°..+1°C
For snow that is wet or damp and still has lost most of its structure.
If Red is icing or clumping move to Ski*go Violet klister. If the snow is
dirty or Red has been losing grip over time (indicating there is dirt in
the snow) move to Ski*go Silver klister. At warmer temperatures move to
Ski*go Orange.
Red
$11.00 each
[more on order]
|
Violet, +3°..-4°C
For snow conditions that are a mixture of ice and aged snow. Not for use
with new snow. Move to Ski*go Universal if new snow is covering icy snow.
Move to Ski*go Red Klister when conditions are at the warm end of this wax
and wet. A tough klister that resists abrasion.
Violet
$11.00 each
|
Blue, -3°..-8°C
For snow that is crusty or frozen. The track will be glazed or icy
due to thawing and freezing. A tougher klister than Ski*go Violet that is
very abrasion resistant.
Blue
$11.00 each
|
Racing Fluoro, +20°..+3°C

helps wick away free water allowing better snow crystal penetration while
a the same time dramatically reducing dirt pick-up. Excellent glide
properties too! For all snow types at the listed temperature range.
It's one that should be in every wax box.
HF Yellow
$31.00 each
|
HF Violet, +2°..-2°C
A klister designed for grainy snow conditions. The addition of fluoro

properties too! A great companion to HF Yellow Klister.
HF Violet
$31.00 each
